No Plus One... Again

*Holiday Special*

Since thanksgiving is only a few days away, your food shopping and dinner plans are probably already complete, but what about your speech? “What speech?” I'm talking about the "Reasons Why I'm Still Single" speech you mentally prepare for your aunts, uncles, and grandparents. If you have ever done such a thing, then you may have also asked God to do this: spare you from another lonely Thanksgiving.

If you're waiting on God to rescue you from repeated holiday "shame," then Psalm 25 is the perfect read for you this week. David, the author of this chapter, was waiting on God for protection from his enemies. What's puzzling though, is what David asked Him for. You would think that the first thing he would seek out is an escape route or a warfare plan. But David asked for something else: to be shown God's WAYS and PATH in his situation. (Psalm 25:4)

David knew the key to winning and having peace of mind was finding out what God was up to. Sometimes our greatest relief is not getting out of a situation but discovering the reason why we're in it.

Three years ago, I was so upset with God. I just couldn’t understand why I was still single. So I asked Him. That very night, God let me in on His purpose for this particular season of my life. His plan brought me great peace and clarity. Since then, I’ve been smiling because I know my waiting has purpose and is not in vain. This Thanksgiving, I am walking into the dinner party smiling, with my head held high, and a different prepared speech on my lips. And no, it's not the one that says "Here he is!" just yet. It's that "none of those who wait for God will be ashamed." (Psalm 25:3).

"Being single is a gift of time. A window in which we are free to discover our passions, become really great at those passions, and seek God for why He created us in this season of history." - Drenda Keesee

We have two choices to make. We can trust God and learn His ways while we wait or we can follow our own ways and create our own path. Waiting is NOT easy. It's a learned technique but surely it is worth it. I've resolved to wait joyfully because God's got a plan and I trust Him. He's got a GREAT plan for you too. So while you wait to be smitten by your "him," do what David did. Trust God. Put a new speech on your lips. Instead of feeling anxious or making up excuses as to why you’re still single, ask God to reveal what He's up to. When He tells you, you will be reassured that God has ALWAYS been up to something good. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Smitten by Him,
